Sophia smiled to herself as she was staying up in the middle of an empty music room. It was the weekend and she had wanted to continue on her studies. Majoring in Sciences and having a minor in music was great, even though she regretted it every time she had exams one after another. She had a vocals class, where they had to pick the song of their favorite artist and impress the teachers. Hers was Beyonce, no doubts! But she had done so many songs, she just didn’t know which one she should perform. Single ladies was amazing and it was her personal favorite but she had to pick something that represented her, she always liked to do that. Maybe she could ask James…nah, she had enough of him with the Hairspray productions they were doing at school since she was casting as Tracy and he as her other half, Link. It was ironic, really.
That was, until she remembered of one of the hits she loved the most; I was here. It was perfect. She smiled brightly at her own decision before digging through her Ipod to find the song, well, only the melody of the song and plugged it on a nearby computer. Best was she to practice and at that, she closed her eyes thinking that she was Beyonce…she had to give the show after all. Perhaps she would curl her hair and wear something she would have worn for the occasion. Who knows.
“I wanna leave my footprints on the sands of time Know there was something that, meant something that I left behind When I leave this world, I'll leave no regrets Leave something to remember, so they won't forget” She sang confidently and with the power that the song needed. On these occasions, it was hard for her to pick between the career of a vete or a singer. She continued with the lyrics of the song, enjoying the moment she had with herself.

Kelvin sighed, as he walked through the halls, getting random high fives from Pomfrey Students, and teachers who where fans of the basketball team. Kelvin found it to have some sort advantage. Like if he had practice or a game, and he was still in class, the teacher would let him go. And not just that, no student would complain about it not being fair. He was carrying a guitar on his back as he headed to the music room to play some music. He was minoring in music, while majoring in law. He really only did law because he knew it would make his dead adoptive parents proud. And ever since he had known them, that is what he had wanted, was to make them proud of him. But it may have been to late. Kelvin was religious, and he thought that his parents where still looking over him, taking care of him, and teaching their guardian angle how to take care of him. Yes, it is what Kelvin was sure was happening, and what he like to think. As he walked through the hall.
He walked through the, seeings kids he had known since kids, and even friends, ex-crushes, and people he didn't even know. So the interaction in the halls where people walking with their friends, and filled with "Hi's" or romantic re-encounters, where two people who haven't seen each other since they where kids, and they become friends, which leads to a future between the two. Like a cliche in a movie. Kelvin hadn't talked to any of his friends that day, because he was focused on finishing studying, going to practice on that day, and then after, he had been invited to a party, like every weekend.. As he took the guitar off his back, and started strumming 'At Least It Was Here', while walking into the music room. "But I love you more than words can say... I can't count the reasons I should stay." Kelvin slowly sang. As he walked in, and listened to girl singing, and she was really good. But what most intrigued him, was that it sounded familiar.
"Sorry for interrupting you." Kelvin said. Familiar.. He had heard that voice before, but as he looked at the girl, she didn't look that familiar, a bit though. He was absolutely positive that he had heard her voice before. "I'm sorry, and you might be getting this all the time, but I've seen you somewhere.... Or at least heard your voice." Kelvin said.

Sophia was continuing on singing the song, reaching the few high notes it had. She had to practice herself with the feelings that she wanted to give to the people who listened to it. She wanted to give them goosbumps whenver they would hear her doing that performance. She wanted it to be amazing and she knew that if she worked hard enough, she would get it done. Music had always done good on her no matter what. It helped her relax in her stressful period of exams. She knew that she could be hard to deal with during that time but she supposed that anyone Majoring in sciences could be hard to deal with during that time.
It didn’t take long however before she was interrupted by a boy who walked in. If he wouldn’t have spoken to her, she’d probably still be singing. She didn’t mind having a public while practicing. Ever since she was a child she had always loved to have a public she could perform in front of, it was sad that other kids didn’t see further than her braces and fat body. Well, too bad for them, she was confident that she had blossomed into a pretty woman.
She listened to the boy as he spoke to her, he looked familiar and did sound familiar too…she paused, thinking it over as she tried to recall all the people who had been close to her during childhood, before she moved. She knew she was friends with a black kid, could it be possible it was him?
She nodded after he spoke. « I’m in a music major , so I’ve performed a few times already… » she began. It was only natural to sound familiar after performing on a few occasions right? « But you’re right, you look familiar; what’s your name? I’m Sophia Lopez.. » she added with a smile.

Kelvin knew that he knew her from somewhere. A voice like that didn't just click like that. Not only that, he knew that voice, because he had sung with a person that had a voice just like that as a kids. A year or two after his parents had died, when he was in Shakopee for the first two years. He thought about it, and then the girl had said her name. Sophia Lopez, but right at the moment, Kelvin understood Sophie Lopez. Kelvin had a friend growing up named Sophia but Kelvin constantly made the mistake of calling her Sophie, even throughout their childhood and the starting of their teenage years, it had been a habit of calling her Sophie. And now Kelvin knew why her voice was so familiar, but in that moment, instead of seeing the beautiful girl that stood right in front of him, he saw the chubby girl with the braces, that everyone made fun of, which resulted in Kelvin getting into a few fights defending her honor.
Kelvin wondered why the had stopped talking, and as he wondered more and more, he started to get sick to his stomach. He had been a complete jerk, around the age of fifteen, he started getting recognition for his basketball, and rap. And he was drawn into the cool crowd, and then as days went by, he started to talk to Sophie less and less, until one day he had stopped seeing her. And they lived close to each other, so he knew that she had moved when he was a moving truck right where she was supposed to be living at. And at that point Kelvin had already gotten a bunch of new friends, he hadn't really paid attention to her, and now he realized of how much of a jerk he had been to her.
As she said he also looked familiar, he sighed, and gave a weak smile, hoping she wouldn't hate him once she knew. He started to weakly sing a song they both had written when they where kids. "My shine. Baby, it's my shine." He sang, wondering if she would remember, he slowly put his arms around to see if she would accept his hug. "How're you Sophie?" He said. That would have to get her. If she didn't remember the song, which KJ was sure she didn't, she would HAVE to remember the fact that KJ always called her Sophie instead of Sophia.

Sophia tilted her head to the side as she observed the familiar sounding boy. It was odd, he seemed to be another ghost from her past but it didn’t seem to be one she despised. To be honest, she had been used to see people go away from her back then, she knew that she was one of the rejected kids for their appearances. If people stopped being so stupid, she would prove them all wrong. She was talented, intelligent and beautiful. The one who truly hurt her however was Diamond; not only had she had a light crush on him, but that was very far away, she thought that she had somewhat of a connection with him and thus, mainly when they talked about being famous. It was frustrating to see those people you thought who were nice to begin with, turn their back at you. She had been upset at a lot of people whenever it happened. Her wishes to become famous were still there, but there was a reason why she wanted to be like that. She wanted to be listened, to bring good to humanity for the various causes she had been defending the past years. The world just proved her there had enough self-centered people as it was and she wanted to change that.
She observed the boy before her as she was lost into her own thoughts and memories but the only place he seemed to fit was the one of the black kid she used to hang out with; one of the few people who actually still stuck with her. Could it possibly be him? She went to the computer and stopped the song before turning her attention back to the boy. He really had caught her curiosity.
She paused however when he began singing the lyrics of a song she remembered. It had been back then and she really only remembered this part of the song and that’s when it clicked; it was Kelvin! A big grin started forming onto her lips as she went to hug him. She wasn’t even mad by the fact that he never called her by her real name, which was proven when he called her Sophie instead of Sophia.
“Kelvin!” She said happily before pulling away. “I’ve been doing wonderful.” She exclaimed with a grin. She backed away so she could see how he looked now because she only remembered of how he was years ago. “You’ve changed.” She noted stating the obvious. “I can’t believe you still remember that song, I forgot most of it, sadly” she admitted with a light frown. “Are you still into singing? You know there’s a Hairspray going on? You could be Seaweed!” She added rambling. She couldn’t help it really; music had always been one of her favorite discussion subjects. Ooc: sorry for my rambling xD

Kelvin gave a small but obvious sigh of relief. Sophie had not yet mentioned the fact that Kelvin had ditched her for the cool crowd at the age of fifteen, after being friends for seven years. Just showed how good of a friend he was. Ditching literally a friend whom he had probably known for most of his life, to be cool. At that point, he was hoping she didn't remember, although he was sure she would. He did. Because after seeing an old friend, you wonder what made you guys stop talking, and Sophie wasn't dumb, so she would probably remember the fact that Kelvin had stopped talking to her. Or that he had somewhat ditched their usual plans for a party. Yes, thinking about it make Kelvin feel like a horrible person, which he was starting to think, he was a horrible person. All his life he didn't want to be one of those dumb shallow guys who ditched their friends for fame and recognition, and as it turned out, he had ended up becoming one of those guys, as he slowly became embarrassed of his childhood friend, she had been fat, and had braces.
But as he remembered, that had been one of the things he had liked about her. He wouldn't be friends with her through appearance, just through personality, and Kelvin found her personality really cute. A sweet and bubbly girl, who transformed into a powerful woman once she started to sing. Kelvin even remembered the time the had became friends.
The kid was walking home from soccer practice, to see that girl being followed home and teased by kids, who where making pig noises, and even waving food in her face. Kelvin had gone through less bullying, no one had really messed with him. Though he had been bullied a few times for being adopted, or in soccer games, people had thrown bananas at him, and started making monkey sounds. So he knew somewhat what she felt like. As he could see her tearing up, he walked over to the bullies and told him to stop. They told teased him on having a crush on her, and instead of getting mad, he had given Sophie a kiss on the cheek. They started teasing him, and started to forget about Sophie, whom he had told to go away so they would forget about her. He had made the bullies tease him, and forget Sophie. Then later on, they talked during recess and slowly became friends.
"Yeah, of course I remember it, it might be the song that gives you a Grammy one day." Kelvin lied. He only remembered that part because a few weeks ago he had seen the youtube video they had made, as he decided to delete youtube videos. "Same old Sophie, always thinking I want to be the black guy in things. From wanting me to be Morpheus in the Matrix, to Seaweed in Hairspray. Kelvin jokes. "Well, I don't think I have time for hairspray, I got basketball, music, classes, and people always constantly inviting me to things." He said. He literally almost facepalmed himself, he had just screwed everything up, his last sentence might have reminded her of what Kelvin had done.

The concept of Kelvin ditching her like James had didn’t sink in her brain yet. To her, he was better than Diamond, maybe it was because she didn’t crush on him to begin with. Well, not back then….maybe a little as a kid but that was soon gone and replaced with friendship. She would never admit such things aloud however, her pride being what helped her survive through the rough world she had been put in. She would never allow herself to admit such a thing, not after what he had done to her. She knew that it wasn’t healthy to hold grudges for so long and that Shara would be upset with her if she didn’t even try to forgive it to James but she couldn’t help it. Didn’t they understand what kind of hell she had been through? Not at all. None of them could understand her except maybe Kelvin since he too was teased by others but James and the rest probably had never been in her situation once. They couldn’t understand her.
She worried about her appearance even if she didn’t look like it anymore. She always had the old scars that remained there, wanting to look at her best most of the time and carefully picking right outfits before amazing the rest of the planet with her talents. She wanted to prove them that you could be yourself, and pretty and amazing and intelligent all at the same time. She really was going to do it, no doubts!
She smiled at Kelvin as he remembered the song and nodded when he spoke of Grammies. « soon enough, hopefully. » she replied jokingly. She stuck her tongue out at his comments about the roles she wanted him to take and shook her head, smiling.
The only thing that restrained her smile from going better was when Kelvin denied her invitation. She frowned. He really had grown more popular than she had. She only had a small circle of friends (and preferred it that way). Jo, Aly, Shara, (and even James was surfacing back in that circle little by little even though she didn’t want to admit it), she could coult them on her hands. She didn’t understand the need to have bilions of friends. She was also sad that he prorized others to her. « Oh…I see… » she said hiding disappointment and looked away to grab her cellphone and see if anyone had texted her. Nothing. Maybe she was still as lonely as she used to except with the looks now.

If he wanted to, at that moment he could have banged his head across the wall. What had he just done? A girl that had been there for whatever he had needed as a kid, had looked away from him, because Kelvin had just denied her to people that just wanted to jump into his bandwagon so they could be popular, and honestly he had never wanted to be that guy. Of course, it was every kids dream to be popular, be a sports prodigy, handsome, and be loved by everyone. Kelvin always knew that those guys turn into huge jerks to their friends, and honestly, Kelvin didn't want to be one of those guys, but he had done a bad job of showing that. He had just ditched his childhood and one his best friends to go to a party. Well, all the other things where good excuses, which really took a part of his life, classes, basketball.
Another thing was that Kelvin didn't really want to do Hairspray, he wasn't the musical type guy. Yeah, he was a good actor, and he could sing and rap, but he didn't want to stop playing basketball, and start doing musicals. This wasn't High School Musical. And he had to get real, and do whatever would get him a job in the near future. Yes you could do Broadway, and get acting jobs. But he didn't want to, he saw himself in law or in basketball, and all his life he had seen himself as a basketball player. Although he would be lying if he hadn't seen himself as a singer or rapper. But that type of thing, that had been Sophie's thing. The only reason he had even sung or acted, was for Sophie, because he wanted to support her in things. He sighed as she turned away from him.
Kelvin opened his arm, and ran up behind Sophie, lifting her up and kissing her cheek. "Screw the parties though. I may not have time to be in your play. But I bet we still have a whole bunch of time to hang out, if you don't mind?" Kelvin said, hoping she would accept his proposition. As he continued to kiss her cheek, he let her down. She way lighter than she had been a few years ago. Kelvin was never fat, but he had been bullied for being black, or adopted. But he would have time to see her play, the way she sung was great. It was like his sister had told him once when Kelvin was doubting his basketball abilities, his sister said to him "Don't worry about how you play basketball. You're great, and you will be even greater. When I see you play, you look confident, with a smile on your face, that you haven't had since mom and dad died. I think when you where born, God came to you and said 'Go be special in the world.'" That last sentence is what he thought about Sophie. That God had come to her when she was born, and told her to go be special.

Sophia was clearly disappointed into Kelvin; just when she was hoping that he wouldn’t be like James, he ended up being like him. Were all boys actually idiots? She hoped not but he didn’t help proving her thoughts wrong. It was obvious that everyone preferred to be popular, was it why she wanted to be famous? To be popular? Not at all, at least, she hoped not; she was convinced that people would actually listen to her convictions one day and that she would help the planet to be better in her own way. She also had a side plan if that didn’t work out and studied to become a vete and heal animals. Why did the boys want to be famous? Why did James want to be famous? Did he still just want it for fame? Most possibly, he hadn’t proven her other way yet and what about Kelvin? Why did he want to be famous? Hang out with crowds of people while she thought he would always be there for her? She sighed as she tried to contain her anger and to get into a Spanish rant.
She did her best not to pay any attention to him and closed her phone before tossing it back into her purse. What was the point of keeping it or even to stay in there when she was hanging out there awkwardly while speaking to an old childhood friend who was willing to go hang out with those popular kids over her. She wasn’t upset, really…alright, that was a lie, she was mad about it but she tried not to show it too much –which obviously failed- since she always had a hot tempered due to her genes (her mom tended also to burst into anger whenever something about work didn’t please her and she also had the Hispanic/Latin blood running through her veins which wasn’t helping).
She didn’t look at him when he ran behind her to lift her up and kiss her cheek. She was still upset, it worked into calming her down slightly but she was still mad with him. She sighed softly when he decided he would stick with her. Spending time with him would indeed be fun if he was actually willing to do so. She just hoped he didn’t want to hang out with her just to make himself feel better about it. She would be very irritated about it. “Yeah, I don’t mind.” She said letting him kiss her cheek – he was probably one of the few boys she didn’t mind that kind of gesture from. He had always been like a sibling to her anyways.
