Arising from her bed like a phoenix would from the ashes, Natalia Ariana Monasterio let out a yawn and rubbed her eyes. Just like every Saturday morning, she had woken up early to go help out at her grandparent's bakery. Brushing her light pink hair and putting some make up, making sure that she looked alive rather than dead. Walking into her room, she changed from her pajamas into something more Natalia-like.
The walk from her house to the bakery was only a few blocks away. With the weather being so nice for once, why bother driving a car? Why not actually be outside and enjoy it? Stopping in front of the store, she grabbed her key and opened it up. The place was empty. Which seemed rater odd to her. Tucking some hair behind he ears, she paused and made her way into the back of the store.
"Grandma? Grandpa? Hello? Anybody here?" she called out in Italian.

Mike was doing the opening in the morning and was hoping to get the training right this time. He had been so nervous to break things that he was actually breaking things, which irritated him a bit but he was confident into getting things right at some points. So far, there weren’t many customers around so he took the time to clean, that’s what the managers told him to do, there was someone else who was used to work there to show him the stuff he needed to do. Cleaning shouldn’t be hard right? That’s what he thought.
He grabbed the wet tissue and started cleaning the few tables there were around, setting things nicely, then, he went in the back of the store to get a few bakery in the front but froze as he saw someone in, speaking in Italian. “Uh…” he began saying awkwardly. There was something off…why was this girl here and how did she enter in while there was another and older employee here? This was confusing.
“You shouldn’t be here…” he added, rubbing the back of his head as he didn’t know what to do in that case.

Hearing somebody speak, Natalia froze like a deer caught in some headlights. Everything had went from nice and happy to just plain awkward. And didn't help one bit that guy telling her that she shouldn't be in her grandparent's store was extremely cute. She was pretty sure that her cheeks were turning a nice shade of red, but she didn't have a mirror to look into. "Uh ciao!" she said nervously, giving the boy a wave.
'Oh boy, this is so awkward' Natalia thought to herself. Holding up her key, she gave him a reassuring smile. "My nonna and my nonno own the place" she explained, hoping the air of awkward would soon pass. She wasn't sure how much of it she could take before she would have to leave and return at a later time.
Rolling the sleeves of her jacket up, Natalia walked over to the boy. Obviously he worked there and was new. A lot of the employees that had worked there were use to seeing the girl with crazy colored hair pass on through. Holding her hand out, she figured to make light of the situation and get to know him before her grandparents could come back. In other words, the two could hang out before they were yelled at to get to work. "Natalia Monasterio"

If there was one thing that caught Mike’s attention about the girl it probably was her hair that were of an unnatural color, pink was it? He blinked and stared at her for a few seconds before looking away, remembering that it was rude to do so but honestly, he couldn’t help himself. It was the first time he saw a girl with hair that…colorful. Not to be rude or anything though, he liked how unique she was standing there and not seemed to care about it but that didn’t mean he was going to let her in.
He blinked once again as she spoke…in Italian. He didn’t mind the language though…he didn’t understand it at all and it was making him nervous. How was he supposed to tell to the girl that she shouldn’t be there while she was obviously speaking Italian?
He frowned and looked around, starting to play with his fingers a little. Oh, she went off in English. He sighed out of relief. Nonna and Nonno? He didn’t know what they. He wanted to smack himself. Way to go Mike… he thought restraining himself to roll his eyes from being dumb. “Oh hum, Michael.” He said, quickly extending his hand for her to shake.

"Nonna is grandmother and nonno is grandfather in Italian" Natalia explained. She knew that everybody didn't speak it, but with the release of the Assassin Creed games, she figured more people would want to learn it. Having Italian blood in her, she learned it ever since she was a little girl.
Shaking his hand, Natalia smiled. Mike. It was a very common name, but she liked it. Pulling all of her hair to one side of her shoulder, she began to roll back and forth on the balls of her feet. "Well it is very nice to meet you Mike" she said, giving him a warm smile.
Looking around, Natalia felt like the air had gone back to being awkward again. Tucking a few strands of pink behind her ear, she looked back over at him. "So I assume you're the new person my grandparents hired. I think I'm suppose to train you or something?" she questioned with a nervous laugh.

Oh, grandparents, it made sense now. The owners of the bakery did seem somewhat old…not in a bad way of course but they did seem like they could be grandparents. At least, he knew that the girl wasn’t an intruder and that he wasn’t going to lose his job for letting a stranger getting into the bakery without his permission right? It was a good start…okay, maybe not a good one but at least, he did well so far to avoid getting fired for being clumsy.
His brother always made fun of him because he was like that and not like them. He preferred to stay the way he was. He didn’t think that being a cop or some law savior was going to do well on him. He wasn’t as much into sports as his brothers were and he also preferred to stick with books. Sure, he remained with the law wanting to become a lawyer which he had to remind it constantly to his brothers but it seemed that to them, it wasn’t as important as being the guy who arrest the person. Someday, he was going to prove them wrong. He just didn’t know how yet.
He returned the smile to the girl as she spoke once again. “Oh yeah, it’s nice to meet you too…Natalia.” He finished before coughing and looking away. She really caught him off guard and since he didn’t know what he was supposed to do…he thought that if he was at least tagging along with the girl, she would maybe show him something he didn’t know yet? Because to be honest, he barely knew anything.
He nodded at her question. “Yes, I’m the new kid around. I have no ideas however on who’s going to train me today though.” He replied to her, giving her a shy smile. Hopefully things wouldn’t remain awkward forever.

"That will be me!" Natalia piped up happily. Finally, she was going to show her grandparents that she was a little responsible and not always playing video games. She had begged them for months to do other things around the shop besides being on the register and sweeping around. She knew how to make most of the food as she watched her grandparents since she was little and in braids.
"Here, follow me!" Natalia spoke and made her way to a metal table next to a giant mixer. Removing her jacket to reveal a plaid shirt, Nat pulled all of her pale pink hair into a loose ponytail and looked over at the boy next to her. "So have they taught you how to make anything yet?" she questioned. If so then she would find out what they taught him. And working the back was just so much fun! Playing around with food and stuff.
Grabbing a bag flour, Natalia covered some of the table, preparing it so they could make whatever on top of it and it wouldn't get stuck. "So tell me about yourself, because I do't think I've seen you around before"

Michael would honestly prefer to be showed around by that girl instead of the other employees, he didn’t mind them but she seemed to be more…friendly than them? He didn’t know but he was really starting to like her. He smiled at her as she said that she would train him and nodded. Sweet, he’d get someone he wouldn’t be too awkward to talk to. Well, maybe a little but less than with anyone else. He had the feeling she wouldn’t mind if he was to do any kind of mistake no matter what kind it was of.
“Alright.” He said as she asked him to follow him and began to do so. He froze at her question. Him? Make anything? He did cook a little, more than his brothers but he couldn’t say he was one of the best cooks around. He shook his head. “Ahah, uh, no.” Damn, why did he have to laugh nervously?
He watched her work before she questioned him. “Mh, I study at the college to become a lawyer, thought that job could help me pay some of it..” he said with a light shrug. What was he supposed to tell her? She might find his life boring; he wasn’t a police man or any kind of other hero; she might find him boring.

A nervous laugh, very cute. Natalia smiled as she walked over to a nearby refrigerator and grabbed the necessary things for baking; milk, eggs and some butter. Setting them down onto the table, next all she had to do was grab measuring cups and spoons. With those in hand next, she sprawled them over the table as well.
Hearing what he wanted to do, Natalia paused. A lawyer. Typically the young girl wouldn't have frozen over that word, but that was her mother's occupation. And it always reminded her of how badly her parents' divorce ended. Rather nasty with some harsh words exchanged at each other. Oh, a lawyer?" she questioned, trying to act like nothing mental had happened to her. "That's pretty cool" she added.
"A lot of baking starts off with these few things. Sometimes more will be added, sometimes you may not need certain things." Natalia began. "So let's make some cupcakes!" she said happily. Cupcakes could make anybody feel better and if they didn't, well then the person probably had no soul.

The more he thought about it, the more he decided that perhaps, it would be a good idea for him to ask help to his mother in cooking matters. It wouldn’t be a crazy idea, especially if he was to have to cook the entire day. He didn’t even know about if they’d set him in the front or not so best was for him to get all the tools he could use so he wouldn’t get fired during the next few days. He had been so nervous at this job, not only was it his first but he really wanted to keep it. He needed extra money to pay for his outings and for his college as well. Sure, his parents paid most of it but he still had to pay his part. It was something he understood.
He smiled slightly at her when she questioned him about his job and nodded. Becoming a lawyer was his dream, really. It was still related to cops or whatever good job his siblings and parents had. In a way, he wasn’t the black sheep of the family if you forgot the fact that his job required mostly to read books and remember of most laws that existed.
He didn’t notice that Natalia was shaken by it and focused on the ingredients that she had pulled out. So, it sounded good, the milk, the eggs, the flour, the butter and the sugar. He’d have to remind it all but he didn’t think it would be hard. “Sounds good to me.” He responded with a smile. “What do we begin with?” he asked her curiously. He was really interested into learning how to make cupcakes; her mom would like it if he was to cook for her dessert on mothers’ day. It would be a nice gesture.

"It's very easy really" Natalia smiled. this was fun, teaching somebody how to make cupcakes. Sure she spent just about all of her time playing video games, but this was a different kind of fun. It felt good passing on her knowledge to others. Maybe she could this for a career as well as doing make up.
Brushing her light pink bangs out of her eyes, Nat nodded her head. "Combine all of the wet ingredients first, like the milk and the eggs." she started off, pouring some milk into a bowl and cracking two eggs. Grabbing a nearby towel she wiped her hands off to keep them dry.
"Next add of the dry ingredients, which will be this" she said, grabbing just a plain box of cake mix. "We typically make it all from scratch, but I decided to cheat a little today" she grinned and giggled a little. Pouring the cake mix into bowl, she stuck a whisk inside and carefully slid the bowl over to Mike. "Here you can stir it. Just make sure everything gets mixed together throughout."

Michael smiled at the pink haired girl as she reassured him on the fact that it was easy. Good, at least, he wouldn’t make a fool of himself. Or, worse, if he did make a fool of himself in front of her while doing something as easy as cupcakes, it might end up getting awkward. He was hoping that God was on his side for today. “I’m ready to learn then.” He told her a bit more confidently than he used to be a few moments ago.
He tried to do as Nat said so, combining all of the wet ingredients first, milk and eggs. Alright. He looked at her as she did so and nodded but blinked when she said that they would cheat. Cheat?..how? He felt like being a bit lame not knowing anything about a bakery and yet, getting hired there. The owners must be really patient with him to let him do his job. He was more at ease with the law, cupcakes were a different story.
“okay, that sounds relatively easy.” He told her when she finished explaining. Then, it was his turn, to mix all the ingredients together. “Hum , sure..” he began hesitantly mixing it after she handed him the bowl. Mixing was easy, as long as he didn’t drop the bowl onto the floor. He really hoped that he wouldn’t do anything clumsy or make a mess…so far, it was going well, he smiled when he was done and showed her the result. “Here we go.” He said proudly. Hey, it was the first time he did something without it ending as a disaster! He had the rights to be proud of himself no?
